A Sunflower Finish

Hi everyone.  I hope this post finds you enjoying this semi-quiet week between Christmas and New Years.  I’m happy to be able to share one of my hand-pieced blocks now that it’s been gifted.  Happy? Shucks, I’m dyin’ to share!!!

First the view of the Sunflower block after it was quilted but before binding – in the natural sunlight.

And here we are set on-point which is my personal favorite setting.  The binding I couldn’t settle on so in the end I just kept it simple.

I’m really glad I kept going with the Sunflower block.  This one I TOTALLY DIG. It’s my 4th. Blocks 1-3 proved to be the learning ground I needed. The quilting was done at Longarm Quilting by Lynn Graham & Cathy Peters. I call them my friends. 🙂

I wish you to know how very much I appreciate your friendship, kindness and continued support of my little adventures here at LeeHaven. Next up, something new…

A Holiday Finish

Merry Christmas! I see wonderful blog posts and all sorts of photos reflecting everyone’s Joy this Christmas. I absolutely fell in love with Marcie’s stockings. I love denim and she’s goooood working with it.

Here is one of my holiday finishes. This is “Red is Special” and I’m pleased. Creating this little quilt allowed me to see how much I’ve learned in the past couple years. That is to say, how much I’ve learned creating something – blocks to binding – in one given period of time.

Continuing to practice the binding. Have to admit there’s improvement and I did enjoy the binding process. I’m starting to “get it” on that possibly.

While creating this I picked up the best vibe. I really did put “Celebrate Handmade”  into action. Because of Inklingo, I enjoyed making those red blocks. I just whipped those babies together w/ no squaring up.  Playing with the reds and the backgrounds was a party! Then the border element. That’s been beating in my heart for a long, long time and finally something said “shirting me here!” so I went for it. Of course the quilting. I learned a lot doing this simple work.  I didn’t think this would happen but I seriously enjoyed the effort.  The best vibe, I tell ya. After that the binding fabric and no kidding here – as I recall it came in the mail and hadn’t made it off the cutting table. Right-in-front-of-my-face along with that best vibe. Kinda like a star. 😉

A Little Finish!

I can’t wait to share this!!! I set my goal on Friday to finish this up by today/tonight and I made it.

Its rare for me to plan ahead for Christmas but this year I did on just a couple of things. Being on a Carpenter’s Wheel roll, I came up with this little quilt. I made the entire piece with the exception of the outer blocks earlier this year.

This weekend I added all the outer pieces, layered it and did the quilting. Most by hand but some by machine. You can see by looking at the back. Don’t forget to click for a close up.

This is my very first pieced back. I always say how much I enjoy a pieced back but I never take the time to make one. This weekend I was on a mission and found just what I wanted and how I wanted to make it.

I am so excited now about Christmas, I can’t tell you!  …or wait… I can!  I just might be too excited to go to bed. Sheesh.
